Ipswich & District Ramblers

Chair's Chatter from Isla Clough - Autumn 2017

Welcome to Ipswich and District Autumn/Winter Programme

I am sure you will notice the changes we have made to the Programme, which will be the last printed copy sent to you unless a request is made before December 31st. See important information on the Home page..

Thanks to the three walks coordinators, Keith Moxon, Jo Mann and Rob Young for producing the programme and to all those who have submitted walks. There is more information regarding leading walks on the next page. Please do consider leading a walk. Additional walks can be added over the next 6 months and published on the website. Experienced walks leaders will be available to help plan and walk out a new walk. We have copies of our past walks, and Ramblers UK have free OS maps available for loan, just talk to one of the committee.

Following the success of the Walk Leader Training Day a number of people requested map reading and compass training and an introduction to First Aid. Geoff Knights and Paul Buckles have organised a Map and Compass Day, details below. First Aid training will be coordinated next year and the proposal is to provide sessions for all Suffolk Area Ramblers to attend. There will be three sessions, held at Stowmarket Community Centre. Details of dates and time will be published on the website.

The Winter Walks Festival is a Ramblers UK event which all groups are asked to contribute to. This year we are negotiating a guided walk around Holywells Park with a Park Ranger. An integral part of the festival is to invite community groups, so it is possible people from Health Walks will join us. We plan to have the details on the Ramblers website, published in local newspapers and on Radio Suffolk to gain some publicity and encourage people to walk with us.

We have a New Year lunch planned and ideas for other social events. The Committee have been able to respond positively to ideas for events and activities from members so please continue to let us know any you have in mind. This year our AGM is being held on Wednesday 8th November, join us for a walk from 10am or for the AGM and a soup lunch at 12. This is an opportunity to share ideas and chat. Full details in the programme. We look forward to seeing you there.
